Visiting D.C. This Summer? Don’t Miss Out On The City’s Hottest Independent Hotel

When it comes to American cities, it’s tough to find a more fascinating vacation destination than the District of Columbia. In addition to being rife with spectacular landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and United States Capitol, this city is home to a top-tier food and drink scene with cuisines from all corners of the globe. Hospitality-wise, the city is no slouch either, with abundantly-charming hotels popping up on the regular. Case in point: Yours Truly DC, a boutique property that made its grand debut in May 2020.

While Yours Truly may be a relatively new addition to the area, the building that it’s housed in dates back decades, constructed when Brutalism was at peak popularity across the United States. Though the exterior is adorned with the telltale straight lines and sharp corners, the hotel’s interior exists in stark contrast, joining together to form a particularly fascinating aesthetic blend that’s referred to as “boho-meets-brutalist.” Completely unique to the city, this concept is marked by earth tones, modern furniture, and concrete floors adorned with intricately-designed rugs.

Though D.C. is renowned for its incredible bars and restaurants, there’s stellar drinking and dining to be found in the hotel itself. There are two distinct dining concepts housed within the property, with the main attraction being Mercy Me, a charming venue founded by distinguished D.C. restauranteurs Andrew Dana and Chef Daniela Moreira. Described as “sorta South American,” dishes around here range from caldo de pescado to beef anticuchos to cubano sliders, providing diners with a plethora of hearty dishes from all across the continent.

In addition to decadent South American fusion, the property is also equipped with another much-needed outpost gracing the ground floor. After a long night on the town, guests can head down to the lobby to find Call Your Mother, a Jewish deli-style operation offering bagels loaded with whitefish, pastrami, capers, and a wealth of other savory favorites. Not a huge fan of bagels? No worries—the spot is also home to tuna melts, latkes, and even black and white cookies, infusing a little NYC culinary flair in the heart of the nation’s capital.

Upscale bedrooms, complex cocktails, and on-property restaurants are pretty typical features at most hotels, but Yours Truly is also equipped with two particularly unique amenities as well—one of which, interestingly enough, is haircuts, with local business Groom Guy serving as a popular barbershop operating right out of the hotel. Meanwhile, El Donut Shop is just a couple of steps away, equipped with—not pillowy breakfast pastries—but stacks upon stacks of vintage vinyl, allowing visitors to discover their new favorite artist from the comfort of the hotel.

While the hotel is pretty stellar, there’s no shortage of incredible tourist destinations just a short walk past the front door. Located on the western edge of downtown D.C., the northernmost edge of the National Mall is just a twenty minute walk away, providing stellar views of the White House and access to some of the nation’s most treasured attractions, while prestigious institutions like the Heurich House Museum and National Geographic Museum are just a few blocks east as well.

Though D.C. is no stranger to top-notch hotels, the inviting atmosphere, innovative dining concepts, and abundant amenities at Yours Truly make the property tough to pass up. Whether you’re hoping to explore the district’s most historic neighborhoods, wander through some of the most prestigious museums in the nation, or just relax with a cocktail in hand, Yours Truly is certain to serve as a one-way ticket to a truly memorable vacation.
