Two tourists to Hawaii experience up to a person yr in prison and up to $5,000 in fines following falsifying vaccination playing cards.
Norbert Chung, 57, and Trevor Chung, 19, had been arrested Sunday at Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye Airport immediately after violating the state’s Secure Travels program, which enables travelers from the U.S. and its territories to provide vaccine evidence to bypass the state’s mandatory 10-day quarantine. Earlier, all tourists, which include vaccinated visitors, had to just take a COVID test three times before departure to bypass quarantine.
Investigators from the Department of the Legal professional Standard made the arrests soon after receiving a tip from a neighborhood member prior to their arrival, according to a statement from spokesperson Gary Yamashiroya. The two tourists ended up arraigned Thursday early morning.
“The Office of the Legal professional Standard will examine and prosecute individuals who cheat the Safe Travels application, which was recognized to maintain our islands safe,” Yamashiroya in a statement.

At a news conference Tuesday, Hawaii Gov. David Ige applied the arrest of the visitors as an illustration of the state’s strict enforcement of COVID limitations.
“We’ve been fairly aggressive in imposing and prosecuting those violators that we have become conscious of,” he reported. “We have pursued quarantine violations. We do have a case exactly where we experienced travelers forging vaccination records that we have filed expenses versus.”
