After a two year delay, Scots are finally arranging holidays as they put plans in place to take off this summer.

But revellers have been urgently warned against putting valuable items in places that thieves know about.

Leaving treasured items like cash and jewellery in your room is risky, but there are dangers to carrying everything around as well.

This can leave tourists confused on the best way to ensure personal belongings do not get lost or stolen

Travel site Hotels & Discounts has issued a warning that, although “many people believe that their valuables are safe deep in a drawer”, this is among the worst place to leave things that are valuable or important.

As reported by Glasgow Live, the closet, under the bed, in the fridge, under the mattress and the laundry basket should be ruled out too, as well as any bags or suitcases in your room.

The website added that in-room safes were not a good idea either, as they are one of the first places criminals check.

While this doesn’t leave tourists with many options to keep their belongings safe, there are a number of crafty solutions that could ensure your valuables do not get stolen.

Travel site Skyscanner has revealed a number of packing tips, including how to keep your things safe inside your hotel room.

It stated: “To avoid the worst-case scenario of being robbed, it’s best to be inconspicuous: don’t flash cash or expensive jewellery.

“If you’re worried about valuable stuff in your hotel room, hide it in an empty suntan lotion container. You could also use empty lip balm containers to hide rolled-up notes. You could also consider getting travel insurance.”

Travel association ABTA has also shared practical advice for keeping safe whilst on holiday, recommending that valuable items are kept on your person during changeover days and that doors and windows are locked when the accommodation is unoccupied, as well as during the night.
