Ruth Swift and Ted Weaver initially achieved in the summertime of 1943 at a vacation resort on the coastal peninsula of Prouts Neck, Maine.
He was a bellboy and elevator operator and she labored in the post business office. They have been among their junior and senior decades in large faculty.
“The lodge would deliver him out to get the mail just about every day for the hotel people,” Ruth explained. “He understood I worked in the write-up office so he would ship me postcards. He called me the write-up mistress.”
The teens would spend their no cost times discovering the shorelines in New England.
“It was in the course of the war, so we traveled almost everywhere by bicycle,” Ruth stated. “There was not a great deal else to do.”
Right after a summertime romance, they went their separate strategies.
Equally married other people today and had households, but they knew of each other’s whereabouts by way of a mutual mate.
“I observed out that Ted was heading to his 50th reunion in Maine in 2001, and I wrote him a letter and asked him to take a look at me,” Ruth said. “He finished up driving from Arizona to Florida to decide on me up and get me with him to the reunion.”
Ruth’s spouse of 50 years experienced died in 1999, and recollections of Ted begun to floor.
“I realized he was managing an RV park in Arizona at the time, and when we talked he explained he needed to shift to Florida.”
Together, that’s just what they did.
Ruth and Ted have their very own apartment in The Springs at South Biscayne in North Port.
Prior to transferring to The Springs, Ruth was a longtime resident of Harbor Cove in North Port — considering the fact that 1987 — and she still has numerous friends there.
The two Ruth and Ted experienced COVID-19 in Oct, and both of those have recovered properly. Ted used 10 times in the medical center. Ruth’s signs or symptoms were moderate.
“He acquired a blood transfusion and that healed him.”
They have both of those been vaccinated.
Ruth has 3 sons and a daughter, Betty, who life in Harbor Cove with her spouse, David, in the course of the winter season months. Ted experienced four youngsters all have died.
Betty experienced a photo of her mom and dad on the seaside in Maine designed into a woven coverlet for the pair.
“It came out fantastic for being this sort of an old photograph,” she mentioned. “They continue to keep it on their bed.”
Ruth’s son, George, the youngest, is a mechanic who life in California. A single of his clients is comic and car enthusiast Jay Leno.
“George is Jay Leno’s head mechanic in Burbank at Jay Leno’s Significant Pet dog Garage,” Betty reported. “My brother Andy (who lives in Maine) does some work for him from time to time, as he is a fireplace engine restorer. Steve, the oldest, is a jewelry wholesaler. Jay named her on her birthday (Jan. 8) and now she’s a massive superstar about The Springs because she told a nurse that he named. News like that gets all around rapidly.”
Ruth not too long ago turned 94 and Ted is 93.
Every week, Ruth and Ted contact Betty and David to sing “the Friday song” — a tune they produced up collectively — about the cell phone.
“Ted likes to sing silly tracks with my mom,” Betty explained. “It’s sweet.”
She’s had to educate some new technology to her mom because of to the pandemic.
“Over the past couple of months, we have been communicating a ton via Alexa,” Betty reported.
