OBITUARY: Andrew Cairns, 1931-2021 | Shed Coast Outpost
Born
in Glasgow, Scotland on Dec 24,1931, Andrew moved to Arcata at age 19
to reside with his cousin Mary Irene Riley, her husband Jim, sons
Andrew & Scott and to discover work and pursue an instruction at
Humboldt Point out School (HSU). He put in two
decades serving in the US Army and was happy to be a Vet. A graduate of
HSU in Enterprise, he attained a second Bachelor’s Diploma from American
Institute for International Trade (Thunderbird) at Phoenix, Arizona.
Selecting
on a vocation in the Merchant Marines gave him the prospect to
journey and function aboard sea heading vessels. He embarked on his career
on the S.S.
Hope
as a Yeoman(administrative/clerical get the job done). The S.S.
Hope
was the initially peacetime hospital ship that introduced health-related care,
heath instruction and humanitarian assistance to nations close to the
entire world. The voyage lasted a calendar year and was one particular of the highlights of his
sailing profession. He was accredited
to sail as a main
steward
(manager
of whole passenger
department)
aboard freighters
and
passenger
liners.
He sailed for 20 decades and he past labored shore-side as a port
steward

Andrew achieved
his wife Barbara in 1970 when they both worked aboard passenger
liners.
They married in 1973, and in 1975 Andrew moved back to Arcata with
Barbara and their dog Misty, to share a tranquil daily life alongside one another. He
savored golfing, pursuing the news/latest occasions on Tv set, looking at
mystery/suspense novels, guides/publications on journey
and Environment Wars
I & II. Travel remained his lifelong enthusiasm and he seemed
forward to his annually vacations to Scotland and other sites of
desire.
Andrew
was caring, light, generous, outwardly shy and reserved but was also
self-confident and fearless with wonderful internal energy. Andrew passed
away on Feb. 13, 2021. A loving and beloved spouse, he will be
enormously skipped by his wife, Barbara, who shared 47 yrs with him.
