MACKINAC ISLAND, MI – If Mission Point could wrap a big banner around this well-known resort on the island’s sunrise side, it would proclaim the upcoming season a “Year of Celebration” – a time to start making up for all those experiences and fun vacations that had to be shelved last year.

With travel expected to open up throughout 2021, Mission Point has designed a mix of vacation packages for spring, summer and fall. They’re aimed at whatever type of getaway you’re longing to create, from a family trip complete with bike rentals and tickets to Fort Mackinac and the island’s Butterfly House, to one designed for romance that comes complete with a five-course dinner, wine and tickets to cruise the Straits of Mackinac aboard the Sip N’ Sail boat. Other special packages are built to cater to dog-lovers, honeymooners, and even island leaf peepers later in autumn.

“No cars or worries are allowed at Mission Point and we’re looking forward to welcoming guests safely,” said Liz Ware, vice president of sales and marketing for the resort. “With so many missed moments over the past year and good news on the horizon, we’ve declared 2021 as the ‘Year of the Celebration.’ It’s time for exceptional Mackinac Island experiences including picnics on the Great Lawn, family reunions, birthday parties, anniversaries, work retreats, weddings and all safe celebrations.”

Big Upgrades for Guests

In the last few years, Mission Point has undergone more than $10 million in renovations, including a refresh for guest rooms and upgrades to its dining options. Last year, it refocused its outdoor meal and adventure options, creating Mackinac Island’s largest Picnic Society, and more takeout and fresh food pick-up options for overnight guests as well as people just stopping by while exploring the island. Its giant outdoor lemonade stand proved a popular stop for guests and visitors alike last summer, with lemonade for kids and special drinks for grownups. The resort also offered daytrip packages that included bike rental and food vouchers.

Ware said resort staff have worked hard to make changes that allow guests to feel more comfortable and give them new options.

Last year’s big reveal was a new, elevated outdoor event space that offers a wide-open view of the Straits of Mackinac. It can be reserved for wedding receptions, family reunions, work gatherings, or smaller events. Mission Point also created space for remote schooling and remote work offices inside its revamped conference center, allowing guests to reserve space there. The areas are disinfected between reservations, and frequent deep-cleaning remains a staple of the resort’s pledge this year, too, Ware said.

“As a leader in COVID-19 safety, our team continues to work closely with local, regional and state officials. We are part of the American Hotel & Lodging Association’s Stay Safe Program, The Pure Michigan Pledge, have earned accreditation from Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Administration Ambassador Program and are currently in the accreditation process from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council Star Facility program. We love this place and cover our face!”
