ROCKFORD — City officers could tap $250,000 in condition funds enhancement funding secured by state Sen. Steve Stadelman to put in boat docks this summer at Davis Park in downtown.

Stadelman said he sights the addition of boat docks as an incremental stage towards activating a park with the probable to serve as a central accumulating and enjoyment hub of the metropolis. And it builds off momentum established previous yr by the opening of the Embassy Suites by Hilton Rockford Riverfront before the pandemic introduced the hospitality industry to a halt.

“There is a ton of enjoyment among people in this group about that development,” Stadelman said. “Before COVID strike — and even in the summer months when there was limited occupancy — they would go to the hotel, take in on the rooftops and they would be real excited about this task and they could actually envision what downtown Rockford can turn into.”
