Charleston’s newest boutique luxury hotel, The Pinch, offers a smart blend of historic ambiance, modern amenities and residential style. Spread across two original Victorian-style structures, some that date back to 1843, alongside one newly constructed building, the property fills all of the required hotel buckets: stocked mini-bar, full service restaurant, ample lounging spaces, 24-hour service, but it also manages to convey a true sense of home. Think fresh houseplants and original artwork in every guestroom, as well as washer and dryer units and full-size kitchens—oh, and cocktail kits. The concept is both surprising and stylish—this is not the kitchenette-meets-hotel-room look, but rather an assortment of enchanting 25 luxurious rooms and suites uniquely appointed with tasteful, smart design elements.

The Pinch’s eclectic style features a medley of influences, from contemporary colors to vintage furnishings—with a dash of 70’s chic tossed in for fun. Developed and designed by Philadelphia-based hospitality company, Method Co., in partnership with renowned New York-based architect, Morris Adjmi Architects, a stay here promises to deliver hotel style unlike anything you’ve experienced before

The entire hotel, including restaurants and spa, is an assemblage of three buildings, all housed in the former Bob Ellis buildings that were built in 1869, and the Lequeux-Williams House, previously a private residence dating back to 1843. Accommodations include a mix of king and loft rooms, one- and two-bedroom suites, and residences. While there are subtle variations and unique configurations in each room, including some with private balconies and terraces, all feature a full kitchen with marble or black walnut countertops, Italian marble farmhouse sinks and unlacquered brass taps by deVOL, BlueStar ranges, and custom cabinetry.

The lobby is designed to feel like a living room, complete with reclaimed oxblood leather concierge desk, vintage McIntosh stereo, and a collection of vinyl, books and artwork. Also, look for an original painting by acclaimed artist, Lucas Reiner. The lobby is also home to The Quinte, the hotel’s turn-of-the-century-oyster house & bar—with a menu and design inspired by the ceremony and traditions of British oyster bars and cocktail establishments.

The hotel’s refurbished nineteenth-century neoclassical Lequeux-Williams House is home to the property’s signature restaurant. Set to open this summer, the cuisine will feature a blend of French techniques and seasonal, locally procured lowcounty offerings, as well as a line-up of quality-driven craft cocktails, local beer and an extensive wine selection with a focus on French and European producers.
