“To be honest, that’s why we haven’t committed to launching this new phase. The Department Health is really concerned about the B117 UK variant. So we want to kind of look at hey, has this thing started community spread in Hawaii, and then looking at, is this too great a risk to take on at this time,” Gen. Hara said. “On the other hand… if the economy is bad, people lose their jobs, they’re suffering there, there are suicides. So there’s loss of life as well. And where is that sweet spot to where we can accept prudent risks? Open up the economy, so these people can get their livelihoods going again, that’s the biggest challenge for policymakers.”
